Infant Hearing Screener

(2 Full-time positions)

Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) is responsible for the implementation of the Early Words Preschool Speech and Language (PSL), Central South Infant Hearing (IHP) and Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Programs.  The Infant Hearing Screener is an integral member of the Early Words team and is responsible to the Manager of the Early Words Preschool Speech and Language, Central South Infant Hearing and Blind-Low Vision Programs, in conjunction with the Executive Director of ASCY.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely screening and surveillance as identified by MCYS at designated location(s) in the Central South Region (Hamilton, Brant, Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk).
  • Maintain a schedule of hospital and community hearing screenings.
  • Data entry as required and based on the reporting requirements of the Healthy Child Development – Integrated Services for Children Information System (HCD-ISCIS).

Qualifications include:

  • Community College diploma:  Communicative Disorders Assistant
  • excellent clinical skills with preschoolers and their families
  • excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • good organizational skills
  • ability to work as part of a team
  • has access to transportation and, if applicable, has a valid Ontario driver’s license and carries motor vehicle liability insurance on his/her vehicle.

This position will also require the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and in a range of community locations.

Early Childhood Vision Consultant (ECVC)

Central South Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program
One-Year Contract Position (beginning September 1st, 2017)

Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) requires a full-time Early Childhood Vision Consultant.  The Early Childhood Vision Consultant (ECVC) is an integral member of the Central South Blind-Low Vision (B-LV) Early Intervention Program which provides services to the Regions of Brant, Hamilton, Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk.  The successful candidate will provide child and family-centred supports and services for infants and young children with visual impairments and their families.  These supports and services will enhance the optimal development and acquisition of skills needed to perform daily activities at home and in the early learning and care settings.  The Early Childhood Vision Consultant’s areas of responsibility are the provision of child care consultation and assessment, intervention services, planning and reporting.

The successful applicant has:

  • A University Degree in Early Childhood Education with Special Education or Diploma in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college. Post-diploma certificate in special needs (prefer qualifications/ certificate requirements as outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014).
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Education.
  • Early Childhood Vision Consultant (ECVC) certification is an asset or the successful candidate will be required to complete as a condition of employment.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working in the field of early childhood education/special needs.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong knowledge of early years’ programs and services.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
