Professional Learning Consultant (Full-Time – 37.5 hours per week)

Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, resourceful Early Childhood Educator to join our dynamic Professional Learning Team.

The successful candidate must have a strong knowledge of quality assurance processes, evaluation frameworks and Ontario’s pedagogy for the early years to support delivery of high-quality early learning child care programs.  The individual will guide and mentor supervisors in aligning their programs and practices with local and provincial quality frameworks.  As well, the successful candidate will support ASCY’s Professional Learning Team in responding to current needs in early learning and child care by planning and facilitating events, outreach and consultation, Professional Learning Communities, study groups, on-site mentoring and consultation services.

The position will require the ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and Saturdays and in a range of community locations.

Applicants must have/or be:

  • Registered as an Early Childhood Educator with the College of ECE and be in good standing
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience related to Early Learning and Child Care supervision and management
  • Experience in developing mentoring relationships among colleagues and in coaching / mentoring Supervisors and Early Childhood Educators
  • Experience working in a variety of inclusive early learning settings and age groups an asset
  • Strong knowledge of emergent curriculum, Ontario’s pedagogy, “How Does Learning Happen?” and companion documents
  • Experience with adult education and making presentations is an asset
  • Knowledge of and involvement in the early learning community in Hamilton
  • Knowledge and understanding of the diverse community in Hamilton
  • Knowledge of current issues in early learning and child care (i.e.: locally, provincially and nationally)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills to support administrative tasks including data collection, compilation and analysis
  • Ability to reason and problem solve independently and make decisions
  • Knowledge and understanding of current documents that inform the practice of Registered Early Childhood Educators
  • Strong technology skills

The Centre Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care is offered to children and their families through the operations of St. Peter’s Day Care, in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and related regulations, the City of Hamilton’s operating criteria, and the policies and procedures of the Centre. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring that all administrative, financial and human resource functions required for the Centre’s operations meet or exceed all licensing requirements and fulfill the goals and objectives of the organization within the appropriate time frames. The Centre Supervisor manages a complement of 15 full and part-time staff people in a unionized environment. Experience managing in a unionized environment is considered a strong asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take on the responsibilities and duties of the absent staff by:
    o Maintaining constant supervision of all children present and enrolled in the centre
    o Enforcing limits and boundaries for safety during outdoor and indoor play
    o Assisting classroom teacher with programming
    o Aiding during bathroom, hand-washing, outdoor play preparation, lunch/snack time and nap/rest time routines
    o Ensuring that toys shelves, counter tops and play areas are well kept and free of unnecessary clutter

Registered Early Childhood Educator-Supply

Niwasa Aboriginal Education Programs

Classification:      Supply, Relief hours as required
Responsible To:   Supervisor and Executive Director

Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Supervisor and Executive Director is responsible for providing quality early learning experiences for children 0-6 years. Must also work directly with parents/caregivers, and perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator with a minimum of 2 years experience in a variety of early learning settings and age groups.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Early Learning Framework.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and Native language an asset.
  • Ability to adhere at all times to the Day Nurseries Act and Health regulations
  • Experience in a co-teaching position, working cooperatively within a team format.
  • Current Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screen

Duties:

  • Lead students in activities to promote their spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical growth.
  • Maintain current student records.
  • Will keep the Supervisor informed on all matters that require their attention.
  • Responds appropriately to a variety of general questions regarding the NHS program from visitors and the general public, or provide a referral to the appropriate staff person.
  • Recommends to the Supervisor the necessary upkeep, repair, maintenance and replacement of equipment and supplies for Niwasa to ensure appropriate safety and security standards are maintained.
  • Promote a favourable image of NHS in the Aboriginal community, public and private sector.
  • Undertaking any other tasks deemed appropriate within the parameters of this position.
