From Seeds to Blooms: Growing Ideas with Children with Ann Pelo
Sometimes my imagination is a bird. It flies around in the blue sky, looking for some ideas. Ideas are like tiny seeds; my birds are looking for them.
If the birds get them and drop them somewhere, the seeds will grow into some beautiful plants or flowers, then they are no longer tiny ideas, they are big beautiful ideas.
Five-year-old Laura, at KU Bradfield Park
Children’s imaginations are aloft, on the lookout for ideas that hold the promise of delight and marvel. One astounding responsibility of our role as educators is to send our imaginations into flight, on the wing with the children’s imaginations. What good fortune it is to call this our work!
This is our work even in—especially in—this time of COVID-19. Children continue to send their imaginations soaring, and they continue to watch for us to join them. During our time together, we’ll explore ways in which we can tune ourselves to children’s explorations and undertakings—and sustain ourselves in the process.
We can commit to making this our essential work as we imagine the new future for early childhood education.
Once registered, you will receive the Zoom Meeting invitation.
