The course is designed for friends and educators of young people using the Signed English manual system. It is designed to teach a basic 500+ sign vocabulary to beginners and those with limited knowledge. Instruction is carefully paced and informal in order to accommodate various learning styles. A dictionary/textbook, The Signed English Starter from Gallaudet College, or Signed English: A Basic Guide from Three Rivers Press, will be provided and is included in the fee. Both these texts are exactly the same in content and differ only in title and cover. An optional examination is scheduled for the last evening of the course and a Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to successful participants.
