Supply-Registered Early Childhood Educator

Children’s Laugh & Learn Day Care

Description:
The Supply Educator collaborates closely with all members of the Day Care Centre to provide nurturing care and education to enrolled children under the direct supervision of the Day Care Supervisor and in accordance with the goals, objectives, and curriculum plans as set out by the Board of Directors and all legislative third parties that include the Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario and the local Department of Health.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the continuous supervision, safety and well-being of the children.
  • Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious member of the team in caring for the children and the overall operation of the Day Care.
  • Carries out proper opening and/or closing procedures of the Day Care when required.
  • Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by nurturing responsive relationships and providing a positive learning environment that is developmentally appropriate.
  • Follows the outlined program curriculum that implements stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourages children’s creativity and learning and promotes each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Ensures program equipment is in good repair and assists with toy/equipment disinfecting actions.
  • Ensures that play environments and storage areas are organized and in a clutter-free condition.
  • Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards.
  • Accommodates family instructions for daily care routines where/when possible.
  • Assists with ensuring that the Day Care maintains required child-staff ratios.
  • Maintains open communication with parents and co-workers.
  • Follows Day Care routines, policies and procedures, Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario regulations and other third party related governing bodies code of conduct, etc.(i.e. Health Department).
  • Keeps themselves up to date with changes and developments within the Early Childhood/Child Care sector.
  • Recognizes, documents and takes necessary action of all cases of suspected abuse, illness, accident, serious occurrences, etc. as outlined within the Day Care policies and procedures and ensures that proper communication and reporting to the Day Care Supervisor is carried out.
  • Observes and records relevant information for each child’s daily activity and progress and provides feedback to parents.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related the Day care operations, the children, families and staff.
  • Ensures that all children are treated in a fair, equitable and consistent manner.
  • Assists in administration of first aid as required.
  • Participates in fire drills and other emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Assists the Day Care in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
  • Participates in other assigned duties required by the Day Care Supervisor and/or Executive Committee.
  • Ensures that their required certification training and required background checks are updated, maintained and in good standing at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Years of Experience: 1-5 years
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s pedagogy, “How Does Learning Happen?”, and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Experience in working with various age groups (i.e.: infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, 6 to 8 years)
  • Food Handlers’ Certificate
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Work as a member of a team
  • Doctor Certified Health Assessment and up to date in immunization, TB Test

Salary Range: $17-$19
Position Details: Wages and hours to be discussed at the time of the interview.
