Registered Early Childhood Educator

YWCA Hamilton

Work collaboratively with the Child Care Supervisor by ensuring the efficient daily operation and activity in an Early Learning and Licensed Child Care Centre. Plan and implement a quality program for children 16 months to 5 years based on the Emergent Curriculum, in keeping with the YWCA mission, vision and values and working in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act.


  • Creates a stimulating and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, ensuring the safety of children enrolled in the program through direct supervision, and attendance protocols;
  • Plans and implements innovative weekly programs that are age appropriate and meet individual and group needs, according to YWCA philosophy;
  • Implements curriculum to meet the needs, interests and talents of all children;
  • Participates and engages in all activities with the children;
  • Ensures positive, professional communication with parents/families, community partners, outside agencies, co-workers and support staff, an on an ongoing basis;
  • Administers authorized medications in accordance with policy;
  • Ensures classroom environment is kept clean and neat;
  • Captures and monitors the children’s development goals and progress through weekly documentation;
  • Supervise large groups of children during onsite and offsite excursions such as field trips and swimming.


  • Equivalent to the completion of 2 years college in Early Childhood Education;
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE); maintains registration as required by the YWCA and provincial standards;
  • Experience in a licensed child care setting is an asset;
  • Must provide a TB test, proof of Tetanus (within 10 years) and proof of MMR immunizations;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have basic computer skills;
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Work from a feminist and anti-oppressive/anti-racist perspective;
  • Must provide a current Police Check or willingness to obtain at own time and cost;
  • Bilingual English / French or other languages are an asset;
  • Attend and participate in all YWCA Hamilton mandatory training

  • Years of Experience: 1-5 years
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s pedagogy, “How Does Learning Happen?” and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Experience in working with various age groups (i.e.: infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, 6 to 8 years)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Work as a member of a team
  • Doctor Certified Health Assessment and up to date in immunization, TB Test
  • Willingness to participate in: Staff Meetings, Professional Learning opportunities, etc.
