We’re looking for someone with the following qualifications: degree/diploma in Early Childhood Education, member of good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, 2-3 years supervisory experience, Standard First aid/CPR level C, and experience working with ages 12 months to 4 years old.

Lucky Day Nursery uses a child initiated adult supported approach to play-based learning curriculum. Our educators must have a firm understanding on child development as well as a core set of values that guide the work that we do and the decisions we make (life-long learning, relationships, accountability, communication, initiative, empathy, common sense). As part of our team, our educators will be focused on delivering programs that challenge and engage the child through play, creativity and imagination and a connection with the natural environment. We see children as rich in potential and view children as capable and competent learners. All children should have the opportunity to further their social and emotional development, take part in complex learning tasks that lay the foundation for developmental skills and language. Job Requirements:

  • Have a thorough understanding of pedagogical documentation. Use documentation to track the progress of children, and plan programming

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide continuous and attentive supervision while being diligent of safety and well-being of children.
  • Develop program planning and implementation based on children’s interests.
  • Set up activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning to promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and well-being.
  • Adhere to licensing requirements and all program policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all childcare licensing standards.
  • Ensure that health, safety and all standards are met according to Ministry regulations. Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices; CCEYA regulation.
  • Maintain correct ratios. NEVER leave the children unsupervised.
  • While supervising the children, scan the room or outdoor space routinely to ensure safety and recognizing potential hazardous situations so that they may be prevented.
  • Prohibited practices will be adhered to at all times.
  • Know and implement all policies and procedures, including emergency procedures: fire, emergency response, lost child and release of a child.
  • Observes and records relevant information on each child’s progress as required/as per Centre practice.
  • Prepare and maintain daily attendance, daily health checks, visual sleep checks, accident reports, serious occurrences, parent communication, Hi Mama parent communication app, documentation and other reports/records as required.
  • Assist with children’s meals and snacks including set up and clean up.
  • Supervise sleep time, including visual sleep checks. Children’s beds must be disinfected and sheets changed regularly.
  • Knowledgeable and aware of all food allergies, restrictions, and food preferences of children.
  • Assist children in toileting routines, including diapering. Maintain the integrity of the child during the washroom routine.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation practices are adhered to.
  • Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques.
  • Modelling positive child guidance and self-regulation, appropriate language and social skills.
  • Use appropriate language, voice tone, and body language with children.
  • Restrict own conversations with other adults to necessary conversations.
  • Be present in the moment, build responsive relationships and positive interactions.
  • Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and centre;
  • maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents through responsive relationships.
  • Attends and participates actively in all program/centre, parental or other meetings as required.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment inspection and keeping it in good condition.
  • Conduct household tasks as required including, but not limited to, sanitation of toys, sweeping and moping of floors, cleaning and disinfecting of chairs, tables, shelves, washrooms, change tables, coatroom, laundry duties, dishes when needed, sweeping of yard, setting up and putting away of toys both indoors and out, garbage and recycling.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
  • Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of the centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel in a respectful manner.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training.
  • Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and supply teachers.
    Assists the Supervisor in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
  • Follow Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Centre Director or her/his designate.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A passion for working with children of all ages.
  • Available for various shifts including opening and closing the centre.
  • Inclusive to children with all levels of needs and exceptionalities
  • Experience working with toddler and/or preschool children.
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma.
  • Registered with the College of ECE and in good standing
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Early Childhood Education Practices
  • Valid Infant/Child C.P.R. and First Aid and anaphylaxis training
  • Current immunization record including TB testing (two-step).
  • Up to date health assessment by medical practitioner
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check provided to Lucky Day Nursery
  • Excellent attendance is expected, tardiness is not tolerated
  • Remain current with recent research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adhere to dress code, professionalism, cell phone policy and confidentially
