Infant Hearing Screener-12 Month Contract

Objective:

The Infant Hearing Program identifies and provides the needed services to young children who are born deaf, hard-of-hearing, or at risk for developing a hearing impairment in early childhood. Most children receiving the support they need in early childhood will have the same chance to develop language skills as hearing children.

What we offer:

  • Contract position of 37.5 hrs. /wk. for 12 months
  • Location: travel within Hamilton area
  • Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm with flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular hours
  • Salary: $23.00 – $29.75/hr. depending on experience
  • 3 days of paid time off during December holiday season
  • Paid sick time available after successful completion of 3 month probationary period
  • Benefits available after successful completion of 3 month probationary period (shared cost between employer and employee)

 Responsibilities:

  • Administer timely hearing screening to infants who meet the preset screening criteria, in hospital or at community clinics
  • Document results of the hearing screenings, as required by Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), the Central South Infant Program and hospital protocols
  • Maintain proper functioning of hearing screening equipment
  • Schedule infants for appropriate follow up
  • Adhere to the protocols, policies and procedures of the MCCSS Infant Hearing Program, Early Words, and ASCY
  • Attend IHP training as required due to changes in provincial protocols or as deemed required by the Program Manager or Director of Child and Family Services
  • Responsible for any and all other duties as may be required in accordance with proper training and certification requirements

 Education/Qualifications:

  • College diploma or University degree in Communicative Disorders Assistant program or related field
  • Has access to transportation and, if applicable, has a valid Ontario driver’s license and carries motor vehicle liability insurance on their vehicle as site visits in the Hamilton area are required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar environment
  • Experience working in a health care facility with other health care professionals (preferred)
  • Excellent clinical skills with babies and their families
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Volunteer Board Member

ASCY – Affiliated Services for Children and Youth serving the Hamilton, Niagara, Brant, and Haldimand-Norfolk communities.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

ASCY provides multiple services including capacity building via professional learning, mentorship and resources to Early Childhood Educators in the city of Hamilton and Haldimand-Norfolk. ASCY is the lead organization for the Preschool Speech and Language Services in Hamilton. ASCY is the lead agency of the Central South Infant Hearing Program and Central South Blind Low Vision Early Intervention Program (serving children and their families in Hamilton, Niagara, Brant and Haldimand -Norfolk).

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The ASCY Board operates under a results-based, policy board model. This model is a collaborative partnership between the Board and the Executive Director, with a focus on vision, strategic planning and agency governance. Board members are not involved in the management of operations. The Board meets monthly on the third Monday of each month (except July and August) at 5:00 -6:30 pm. In addition to the monthly Board meetings, there is the opportunity for making contributions by involvement in task-focused committees. The Annual General Meeting is held in June.

OVERVIEW

Community Living Hamilton (CLH) has delivered the core Special Needs Resourcing (SNR) services in Hamilton’s childcare system since 2017. The landscape for service provision in Hamilton has shifted increasingly towards a broader scope and demand for high-quality diverse, equitable and inclusive services among Hamilton’s growing population of children and families. The complexities of disability and compounding marginalization (e.g., racialization, indigenous, francophone, 2SLBQT, etc.) pose unique opportunities for this program. Successful candidates will act as role models for inclusion and lead a team of Resource Consultants and Inclusion Facilitators in implementing best practices that will allow all children to participate fully in their own learning and development.

ROLE

The Supervisor – Special Needs Resourcing is responsible for the overall management, direction and coaching of a team of ten to fifteen staff members as they deliver on the service model. She/he will role-model Community Living Hamilton’s commitment to inclusion and our belief that effective service delivery must be client-focused, strength-based and designed to meet the goals of the individuals we serve. She/he will:

  • Develop, maintain and promote a high level of quality service delivery.
  • Lead and supervise program staff with regular on-site management.
  • Ensure the program meets all internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders that enhance the image and reputation of the organization, our services and our staff team.
  • Schedule Resource Consultants and Inclusion Facilitators to best allocate staffing resources with the need of the individual licensed child care centers.
  • Ensure the safety, security and wellness of children, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or Diploma in the human services field, with preference given to Early Childhood Education, (ECE), Family Studies, Child Studies, or equivalent
  • Registered member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the role of the Resource Consultant an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management, supervisory or team leadership role is an asset.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating child care services in complex situations and with children with special needs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Able to use MS Office Suite applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver’s license
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector is required
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • A commitment to inclusion and empowerment for people with special needs
  • French language fluency, or other languages including sign language is an asset

What will you be doing?

  • Maintain a safe, warm, and caring environment in which a high-quality child care program can operate, and maintain professional relationships with Hamilton Wentworth District School Board faculty
