Executive Director

For more than 25 years, Affiliated Services for Children & Youth (ASCY) has worked in collaboration with families, children, professionals, and communities to share knowledge, build capacity and create equitable opportunities for all. ASCY is a non-profit agency. We are a multi-disciplinary, community-based team that is responsible for the co-ordination of a broad range of activities and services which include:

  • support and development of the Early Years’ services sector in the City of Hamilton and provincial initiatives, and
  • co-ordination and program facilitation for local pre-school speech and language services and regional infant hearing and blind-low vision programs.

We are currently looking for an Executive Director to lead our organization from our offices in Hamilton.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the Agency including, service provision, human resources, and staff supervision, financial, media and community relations as well as the operational aspects of the organization according to requirements of funders, government legislation and other statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing and executing a vision and strategic plan to guide the Agency
  • Recruit and manage staff and staffing requirements including interviewing, hiring, orientation, succession planning, ongoing mentoring, regular performance feedback and progressive discipline while fostering an environment where communication is open and transparent
  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the Agency’s people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks
  • Engage in partnering activities with other provincial and community agencies in the health, education, social services, recreational and private sectors which support the mandate and objectives of the Agency
  • Work with funders to monitor trends and gaps, setting a strategic direction for all our program offerings in alignment with local planning, provincial and municipal priorities and policies
  • Ensure statistical, financial, and other required documentation are complete and shared with funders as per reporting requirements
  • Negotiate financial and service level standards with relevant programs and administer contractual service agreements accordingly
  • Ensure the planning, preparation, approval and submission of all budgets and justification that the use of all funds received are in accordance with funding agreements and the Agency’s policies
  • Seek and execute opportunities to diversify funding sources and form suitable strategic partnerships
  • Foster a supportive organizational culture for our staff and the families we assist
  • Other related duties as require

Education, Experience, and other Requirements:

  • University degree in child development or a related field required, with additional related education and experience (including special needs and family centered care) required
  • Minimum of ten years’ leadership experience in a senior management capacity in the Human Services sector or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in financial planning and fiscal management
  • Experience with strategic planning, political acuity, and collaboration with building strong relationships
  • Experience working with a broad range of community organizations and committees in the Early Years’ services sector
  • Understanding of the current early child development and learning policy environment and government operations
  • Knowledge of provincial deliverables, protocols and quality initiatives tied to the Preschool Speech and Language Program, Infant Hearing Program and Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program
  • Strength in collaboration and co-ordination with community partners to provide the mandated services to ensure excellence in client care
  • Strong working knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, taxation, CPP, EI, health benefits coverage etc.

Description:
Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton operates full-day early learning and child care centres for infant, toddler and preschool children, as well as extended day programs before and after school for kindergarten and school age children in the Greater Hamilton Area.

We are currently recruiting for a Program Supervisor to oversee our Lawfield location. The Supervisor will be responsible for providing a high-quality program that meets the individual needs of children and their families.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program Supervisor will be responsible for the set-up, opening and ongoing operation of a high-quality childcare centre for children ages 0-12 years of age.

The successful candidate will provide supervision and leadership to a team of staff; Work in alignment with How Does Learning Happen ensuring that each of the 4 foundations are implemented; Maintain administration of all licenses, inspections and other related documentation; Support the partnership between child care and school staff; Complete administrative tasks as required as well as ensure overall financial management of the Centre and support and facilitate strong partnerships with community partners.

Registered Early Childhood Educator

Description:

*This position requires a graduate of a recognized ECE program who has registered with the college of early childhood educators. Please do not apply if you are not a Registered ECE.*

Currently hiring for four, one year contract teaching positions in our licensed child care centres. These positions could lead to permanent full-time positions. The positions offer 35-40 hours paid per week at a rate of $15.75 per hour, plus additional wage subsidies as available, for the first three months. The rate goes to $17.25 after 3 months.

Applicants must have:

  • Registration with College of ECE
  • Criminal record check that is no more than 6 months old and includes a vulnerable sector screening
  • First aid and CPR level c certification which is currently valid
  • Up to date immunizations which include dates of Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations, Tetanus, Diphtheria Polio vaccinations, and a clear TB skin test that is no more than 6 months old.

Successful candidates will work as part of a team to deliver quality early learning experiences for children between 1 and 4 years of age. They will plan and implement learning activities, complete documentations, and collaboratively maintain their learning environment. They will work with the centre supervisor to deliver excellent customer service to parents and families.

The McMaster Students Union Child Care Centre is seeking to hire Registered Early Childhood Educators interested in doing supply work. We will have varying hours of work particularly during the summer months to cover for staff vacations.

Educators will understand that children are competent, capable, curious, and rich in potential, and assist staff in providing engaging activities and planned and spontaneous experiences that build on their strengths and abilities allowing them the opportunity to be successful.

Staff will offer encouragement to inspire self- esteem and positive interactions. Staff will not engage in any of the prohibited practices as outlined in the policies. RECE’s work together to ensure that each child is relaxed and secure in his/her environment responding to individual needs, sensitive to social, cultural or developmental differences.
