St. Martin’s Manor Early Learning Centre offers high quality early learning programs in a play-based environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The Manor also has a residential and day school program for pregnant and parenting youth.

As a casual cook you will assist the principal cook at the Manor, you are committed to service excellence and pride yourself in providing quality, consistency and creativity in meal preparation, ensuring food quality and presentation meets nutritional and dietary standards and contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen.

Using proper food handling techniques, you are responsible for the preparation and timely serving of food according to planned menus and make menu substitutions as necessary based on dietary, allergy and religious restrictions. You follow and comply with provincial food premises regulations, Canada’s Food Guide, program guidelines and Health and Safety legislations.

You maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen, including cleaning of all equipment after use and auditing expiration of food/storage items as directed. You are responsible for the kitchen in the absence of the principal cook.

This position requires a highly motivated and self-directed professional with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a valid Food Handler’s Certificate. Must have experience in coordination and organization of meal preparation and knowledgeable about nutritional needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and teens. Must be physically able to lift, reach, bend and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for majority of each shift.

You excel in outstanding customer service skills and able to communicate clearly with Team Leaders, clients and staff (volunteers and placement students). Must have superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Years of Experience in the Food Industry: 1-5 years
  • Current Food Handlers’ Certificate
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
  • Experience working in a child-focused environment
  • Demonstrated skill in coordination and organization of snack and meal preparation
  • Doctor Certified Health Assessment and up to date in immunizations, TB Test
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Some bending/lifting required
  • Ability to work Independently and as a member of a team
  • Willingness to participate in: Staff Meetings, Professional Learning opportunities, etc.
  • knowledge and understanding of the Hamilton community

Salary Range: $18.87-$20.45

St. Martin’s Manor Early Learning Centre offers high quality early learning programs in a play-based environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

The Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the provision of high-quality care to children in a supportive and nurturing environment. You will develop and implement quality early learning and interactive programming to promote healthy child development, parenting programs to support young parents and caregivers of children and model positive parenting skills. An important aspect of the role is to provide information and client referrals to programs and services that are available for families and young children in the community.

This position requires a highly motivated and self-directed professional with a diploma in Early Childhood Education and registration, in good standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

To be successful in this role, you should have knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice as well as the ability to build relationships with families. Knowledge of Infant Mental Health, working with children with special needs and at-risk families is an asset.

You have outstanding communication and problem-solving skills in a multi-disciplinary team environment. You are non-judgmental, caring and empathetic with a respect for diversity in the workplace. You have current Standard First Aid and CPR certification and are able to successfully complete a police clearance with a Vulnerable Sector Screen. You are required to obtain a medical clearance with up to date immunizations. CPI training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and proficiency in French language are an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Years of Experience: 1-5 years
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s pedagogy, “How Does Learning Happen?” and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Experience in working with various age groups (i.e.: infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, 6 to 8 years)
