Description: Community Living Hamilton (CLH) has delivered the core Special Needs Resourcing (SNR) services in Hamilton’s childcare system since 2017. The landscape for service provision in Hamilton has shifted increasingly towards a broader scope and demand for high-quality diverse, equitable and inclusive services among Hamilton’s growing population of children and families. The complexities of disability and compounding marginalization (e.g., racialization, indigenous, francophone, 2SLBQT, etc.) pose unique opportunities for this program. Successful candidates will act as role models for inclusion and be a resource to the whole classroom team in implementing best practices that will allow all children to participate fully in their own learning and development.
• Promote inclusive practices within child care centres
• Act as a classroom educational resource, with the goal of enabling all children to be included
• Model appropriate attitude, philosophy and strategies that promote inclusive classrooms
• Establishing a shared level of responsibility and expectations with the classroom teachers in order to support inclusion
• Build classroom staff capacity with the goal of sustaining an inclusive classroom without the presence of dedicated support resources
• Support the assessment process by assisting in identifying the child’s strengths through observation, interaction and functional assessments as requested by the resource consultant
• Incorporate child-specific goals into their program
• Assist with documentation to support the effective monitoring of the child’s progress and individualized learning plan effectiveness
• Participate in home visits, case conferences, planning meetings, school entry meetings, etc. as appropriate
• Contribute to the development of relevant reports as requested
• Ensure that families are recognized as central to the process and are provided with information, support and advocacy as requested, ensuring families are given every opportunity to be involved in all aspects of their child’s program development and implementation.
• Respond to families’ inquiries and refer to the classroom teacher, resource consultant or childcare centre supervisor as appropriate
• Provide and/or obtain information related to child development, parent support, community resources etc. as requested by the parent(s)
• Support families in accessing a wide range of information and/or services to respond to their identified needs
• Assist the family and child through any transitions to other programs or the education system as requested and appropriate

You have outstanding communication and problem-solving skills in a multi-disciplinary team environment. You are non-judgmental, caring and empathetic with a respect for diversity in the workplace.

You have current Standard First Aid and CPR certification and are able to successfully complete a Police Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Screening. You are required to obtain a medical clearance with up to date immunizations. CPI training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and proficiency in French language are an asset.
