We have never experienced times like these either in our profession or in life in general. It’s a time for us to wonder: What will be the effect of “the rules” on our rich and engaging programs? How do we still provide imaginative and provocative environments for young children in this new climate? How can we protect both the children and our values?
While it is tempting, and natural, to focus on protocols around disinfecting and distancing, we have worked hard to develop wonderful early years programs, and must try to hold onto our values. Let’s think together, using examples from early years settings, about how to do this as we move forward into unfamiliar territory.
